I Know MySELf,
A Social Emotional Learning
Journal of Self-Awareness

I Know MySELf: A Journal for Self-Awareness in the Elementary Classroom
I Know MySELf is a powerful Social Emotional Learning (SEL) resource designed for elementary students and teachers. Centered on the SEL competency of Self-Awareness and aligned with Illinois state standards, this journal uses reflective prompts to help students explore who they are and what makes them unique.
Flexible and developmentally appropriate, the journal encourages students to express themselves through writing, drawing, lists, or labeled illustrations—whatever feels most natural. Research shows journaling improves self-awareness, emotional regulation, problem-solving, and goal-setting while reducing stress.
Beyond individual growth, I Know MySELf fosters classroom community. When used in group settings with Circle Share-Outs, students develop empathy and connection through “me too” moments that highlight shared experiences and celebrate differences. The result is a more inclusive and emotionally responsive learning environment.
This journal isn’t just a workbook—it’s a journey into identity, values, and mindful reflection that strengthens both the individual and the group.

Middle School SEL Journal: A Real Solution to a Real Problem
Two alarming trends continue to rise in schools—violence and an overemphasis on standardized testing. As a strong advocate for Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and whole-child education, I believe schools have a responsibility to support students academically, socially, and emotionally to promote lifelong well-being.
Middle schools, in particular, have struggled to implement SEL effectively. Many scripted programs feel inauthentic and developmentally inappropriate—often purchased with good intentions but left unused. Yet, ignoring SEL in the middle grades does a disservice to our students and school communities.
With over 15 years of experience in middle school education, I’ve seen how students grapple with identity, belonging, and relationships. This journal was created in response—a practical, authentic tool that invites self-exploration and connection through reflective writing and structured circle discussions.
Backed by research and designed with real classrooms in mind, this journal offers a simple, engaging way to embed SEL in daily practice. Through thoughtful prompts, students develop Self- and Social Awareness, empathy, and a deeper sense of community—all while discovering their strengths and potential.

Conócete a Ti Mismo

SEL for Teachers: A Journal of Social Emotional Learning

SEL for Teachers is a powerful professional development resource rooted in the belief that social-emotional learning (SEL) must start with educators. If schools expect teachers to effectively model SEL, then teachers must first experience it themselves. This learn-by-doing journal, created by SEL expert Dr. Emilie Correa, helps educators internalize the “what,” “why,” and “how” of SEL by exploring real-life connections to their own identities, histories, values, and communities. More than a curriculum, SEL for Teachers redefines SEL as a way of being—centering awareness, empathy, connection, and belonging in school culture. Blending research-backed journaling practices with thoughtful prompts and reflective quotes, this resource makes SEL tangible and accessible. It empowers teachers to build inclusive classroom communities and fosters lasting impact at both the personal and systemic level.
